MBA Alumni Profile of the Month: Daniela Mancinelli, USA

Name: Daniela Mancinelli
Place of work: Imago Artis Tour (Rome)
Graduation year: 2011
Current Job: International Marketing Director
Where do you see yourself in 5 years? I see myself owning a beautiful vineyard with a family of my own and continuing my career in Luxury Tourism.

So you finished classes in 2011. Tell us about your experience after your MBA Program.
I must say that it was truly an honor to share my experience and knowledge with undergraduates in the form of teaching. I remember thinking on the first day, how will the students address me? Would it be hello Ms. Mancinelli or excuse me Ms. Daniela? I felt so young, yet so old due to my journey in the working world. Joining the MBA program with seven years experience as an Entertainment Publicist in Hollywood, I felt like I had a lot to give when it came to advice and goal setting in a competitive industry. My approach has always been strategic yet inspirational as I have had the opportunity to witness many people obtain their lifelong dreams with drive and dedication.

What skillset do you need to do your job?
In order to fully succeed in my current position here in Italy, the ability to be flexible and adapt to new cultures has been a definite must. Being of American work ethic, sometimes the Italian “Dolce Far Niente,” or “Sweet Doing Nothing,”can sometimes interfere with deadlines. The key to resolving such issues is to be able to communicate not only in their language but using their terms. If your social skills and ability to use emotion is not a strong suit, I highly advise learning how to do both before working in Italy. Of course this tactic would not work as well in other countries, so my best advice is to find a balance by immersing yourself in the current culture why holding on to your own.

How has your MBA helped you in your current position?
My MBA has propelled me to work successfully in a global market. Not only am I able to understand the needs and demands of an array of clients from all over the world, but also I am able to work professionally beside them. I can recall the sessions we use to undergo in negotiation class when I speak with various agents around the world today. My approach and tone of voice varies in accordance to the country I’m communicating with and I’m grateful to have this insight before taking on very important meetings.

What are your future plans?
My plan is to grow Imago Artis Tour on a global level and see that it becomes one of the strongest Luxury Tourism Agencies in Italy.

If you could describe your experience in Rome during your MBA how would you sum it up?
Absolutely LIFE CHANGING! Not only was I inspired in ways I’ve never been before, but also was blessed to have formed lifelong friendships that I will take with me forever. Just thinking about it brings happy tears to my eyes.

Can you share an experience that is most memorable with relation to the MBA program?
This is a tough one for me, so I guess I’ll narrow it down to two: Adventure Day and Dual MBA in Paris.

Adventure Day at SSM taught me to face my fears. Through the help of my peers, I was able to physically put my life in the hands of my Professors and fellow colleagues, using the power of a trustworthy team and a common goal. I remember learning about myself in ways I never have before. My Paris Dual MBA on the other-hand was an experience that taught me another view on business and marketing from central hub of luxury brands. Here I was able to witness luxury brands at its best while understanding the politics and formula that makes a Luxury Brand so strong and unique.

What was your favorite class in the program and why?
Entrepreneurship Class! I was at the edge of my seat every lesson listening to Dr. Bracale teach us the tools and mindset of a true Entrepreneur. I truly admire his passion for business and motivation for taking risks and following dreams. I remember leaving his class always feeling on top of the world and wanting to open up my own business right away. His courses teach you not only how to be an entrepreneur in your own business but also in the businesses of others.

What advice would you give newcomers to the MBA program or for those interested?
Absorb everything! Always volunteer and let your dreams become the forefront of your experience. Socialize with your peers, as they could be your future business partners. Also, take the risk! Now is the time.

What do you think differentiates this MBA from other MBA programs?
Where do I begin? The professors, the staff and the location makes a huge difference on a student looking to take a further step in their career. SSM has the correct formula to install the proper strategies and tools needed to succeed in today’s competitive market while providing a backdrop of a beautiful historic city that breathes inspiration and creativity to all. I would also have to say that the passion and positivity that is given to each and every student stands as a pillar of support for the rest of your life and career. Thank you Dr. Bracale, Dr. Marshall and the SSM staff for contributing to the drive and light I hold within me today as I share your gifts of wisdom with all I encounter.
